Lachi’s neighborhood diner

For many Dabawenyos, when you think of dining at the Marfori Heights Subdivision, one of the first restaurants to come into your minds is Lachi’s.

Conveniently located along Ruby St. at Values School, Door 1-H, this neighborhood diner is packed for most of the time. Lachi’s is one of the beloved restaurants in Davao City with their delicious pastries and homey dishes.

After filming our Durian Cheesecake episode for Best of Davao, Lachi’s owners Mike and Melvin Aviles prepared a delicious selection of some of their best sellers.

On the table was Oriental Fried Chicken, Spicy Laing, Retro Chicken-Pork Adobo, Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs, Pork Binagoongan, and Spicy Tofu with Egg.

We enjoyed every bite of the dishes they served.

My favorite has to be the Retro Chicken-Pork Adobo. It was simply a homey dish that you want to keep on eating. The meat of the chicken and pork was also very tender.

I also enjoyed the Pork Binagoongan. I am not a fan of the…

The goal of the event is to promote the importance of providing proper support to breastfeeding mothers to create a breastfeeding nation for the future.

Organized by Breastfeeding Pinays in partnership with SM Cares, the Department of Health (DOH), United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) Philippines and World Vision, “Hakab Na!” brought together nursing moms and their families, breastfeeding support groups, advocates, government, and nongovernment organizations.

HOM is where the heart is

MANILA, Philippines

There’s definitely strength in numbers. Over a thousand volunteers from more than 30 private companies are out to prove this age-old truism anew, as they participate in Hands on Manila’s (HOM’s) forthcoming Servathon slated Sept. 28 at the Philippine International Convention Center tent. Co-chaired by Lizette Cojuangco and Marilu Batchelor, the project’s objective seems simple enough: to produce as many mabuhay or bokashi balls as possible in one morning to help mitigate water pollution and revive a number of Metro Manila’s dying waterways.

A product of Japanese technology, the golf-size bokashi ball is made from a mixture of microorganism-rich soil and liquid. Every 350 grams of the mixture is said to clean one cubic meter of water. For this project, HOM is partnering with Asian Social Institute, which will guide volunteers on how to make proper bokashi balls during the Servathon.

After giving them enough time to ferment, the b…

The Department of Education (Deped) said it has formally integrated digital citizenship and responsibility into the basic education curriculum.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said they adopted the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) of telecommunications company Globe in line with its objective of educating students on proper online behavior and creating an open, inclusive and safe online environment.

“We are in a connected world where anyone can easily have access to the internet,” said Briones.

“While we believe that the internet is fundamental to achieving inclusive and equitable quality education, we are also aware that it exposes our youth to many potential risks that may harm them,” she added.

Developed by Globe to provide students and teachers with knowledge of digital citizenship and cyber safety, DTP provides insights into how the online world operates, how to be responsible online and how to make the most of the internet…
