Apple’s latest line of flagship smartphones, the iPhone 12 series, was officially unveiled to the world in October and you may have been thinking about getting one of the latest models. The series has exciting new specs but the phones don't come cheap. That being said, a more practical option (if you've been meaning to upgrade your mobile device anyway) would be to shop one of Apple’s previous iPhone models instead. After all, while the iPhone 12 has some pretty cool features to look forward to, previous iterations of the flagship phone boast similar specs that could satisfy your tech needs.
To help you decide which model would be worth the splurge, we list down the current prices of every single iPhone model—from the iPhone 7 Plus onwards—compared to their original prices upon release. Remember, even the most state-of-the-art gadgets depreciate over time, so keep that in mind before you spend an arm and a leg to buy the newest tech finds on the market.
Here’s how much every Apple iPhone (from the iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone 11) costs now, compared to when each model was originally released:
iPhone 7 Plus

We begin this list with the iPhone 7 Plus, as this model is still widely available at most official Apple retailers while previous iterations of the phone are harder to find. The iPhone 7 series was released in September 2016—hard to believe it’s only four years old and yet considered nearly obsolete these days.
Upon release, the 7 Plus was priced at P44,990 for the 32GB model. Now, you can get the phone for as low as P20,990. Meanwhile, the 128GB model was originally sold for P50,990, but it currently retails for P23,990—both models more than half off after just four years.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

Looks-wise, the iPhone 8 series is pretty similar to the iPhone 7, but packs a bigger punch in terms of features and specs with a glass backing that allows for wireless charging as well as an improved bionic chip and Retina HD display.
It was the last in Apple’s line of flagship mobile phones to feature a single camera on the rear. The 8 originally started at P44,990, but you can get it now for just P30,990 while the 8 plus' starting price dropped from P51,490 to P36,990.
iPhone X

The iPhone X was one of Apple’s most talked about releases, leaving a huge impact on consumers upon initial reveal because of the major overhaul in design—it's worth noting that the iPhone 4 and iPhone 6 received similar attention when they first dropped. The iPhone X is the first Apple smartphone to feature an all-screen interface up front (due to the removal of the home button) and consequently, it’s the first model to boast facial recognition technology. However, despite its release in 2017, the model was discontinued in 2018, so you'll be hard-pressed to find it in official Apple stores any time soon. Its original starting price was set at P64,490, so you might want to keep that in mind if you’re selling your old model or looking to purchase a secondhand device.
iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

When it was first released in 2018, the iPhone XS and XS Max featured the biggest batteries as well as the largest displays on any iPhone at that point with 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch screens, respectively—and unlike the X, they’re both still available today. Prices start at P35,990 for the XS, which originally retailed for P67,990 while the XSMax is available for P42,990, down from its original P74,990 price tag.
iPhone XR

The iPhone XR was launched along with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max—a middleground for the two aforementioned models in terms of both size (6.1-inch display) and price point (starting at P50,990 upon its release in 2018). These days, you can get it for as low as P32,990—even cheaper than the XS despite its original price point being higher.
iPhone SE 2020

The original iPhone SE was released in 2016 as a more budget-friendly alternative to the flagship model at the time, the iPhone 7. It featured similar hardware and software capabilities as the 7, but built into a model identical to that of the iPhone 5 series. The 2020 version of the iPhone SE served a similar purpose with a processor, camera, display and battery life similar to the iPhone 11, a construction modeled after the iPhone 8, and an affordable price point. With the model’s release being as recent as April (we know, it feels like a lifetime ago), the SE still retails for its original P27,490 price tag.
iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max

Almost immediately after the iPhone 12 was unveiled, the iPhone 11 got a huge price drop and it now starts at P37,990—P10,000 cheaper compared to when it first launched in 2019. It was also announced the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max would be discontinued, although you can still find them available for purchase from official Apple retailers. The 11 Pro Now starts at P58,990 from its original P67,990 while the 11 Pro Max is at P65,990 compared to its release price of P73,990.
