Are you missing your usual facials during lockdown? Why not give it a go at
home?
This is the perfect opportunity to learn how to combat problem areas and
understand your skin. Make time for self-care during the next few weeks and
you’ll soon see the benefits!
Vanessa Charest, an Aesthetic Nurse from the London Real Skin Clinic, has
shared her top facial tips for maximum results.
“Make sure you have no other plans for the next hour,” she says. “Facial
oils are really popular and beneficial for skin. Try a rose quartz facial
roller and treat yourself to a facial massage. If massaging with your hands,
remember to work in a circular motion, moving from the chin up to the
forehead, covering all areas of the face. Massaging skin will activate blood
circulation and quickly improve skin tone and texture.”
Vanessa suggests making a face mask, insisting it’s easy to do and only
requires a few ingredients.
“Combine egg whites, which are packed with protein and help repair the skin,
with honey, a natural antibacterial ingredient. Apply directly onto skin and
leave for 15-20 mins,” she continues. “After rinsing the mask off, splash
your face with cold water to tighten pores and boost skin for a glowing
complexion.”
While waiting for the mask to work its magic, treat yourself to some quiet
time away from your phone and other distractions. Sip a cup of herbal tea or
take a bath to help you unwind.
If age spots and wrinkles are an issue, Lisa Borg, expert nutritionist at
Pulse Light Clinic, recommends trying the Skin Booster face mask.
"Mix 1 x tablespoon of avocado, 1 x tablespoon of honey and 6 drops of
lavender essential oil,” she suggests. “Apply to clean skin, relax for 15
minutes and then wipe off with a tissue. Rinse your skin with lukewarm water
and pat dry."
Linda suggests incorporating a vitamin C-based serum into your evening
skincare regime, and it’s straightforward to make if you don’t have one.
Combine Aloe Vera gel, vitamin C powder and essential oil such as lavender,
lemon, or tea tree.
“Avoid using before sun exposure,” she adds.
If your skin is looking dull and dry, regular exfoliation is a must. Even
sensitive complexions can benefit and there’s something for every skin type.
Consider investing in a multi-tasking mitt, ideally an eco-friendly one
which can be re-used. The new Cleanzi Mitt gently removes make-up, offers a
deep clean when used with your usual cleanser, and eliminates pesky
blackheads.
“Our complexions tend to appear dull in colder months, especially when
people aren’t going outside as much during lockdown,” Sam Mian, from Skin by
Sam, said. “Wearing face masks restricts the oxygen flow to our faces which
can clog the pores around our mouths and leads to skin irritation/spots.
“The exfoliating blue side of the Cleanzi Mitt removes dead skin cells in a
few circular motions to remove any build-up and rejuvenate skin
effectively.’’
Try soaking the mitt in cold water, wring out and press to your face for an
invigorating boost!
